Weekly Leaks March 8-14

Welcome to a new feature (for now called Weekly Leaks… if you can think of a better name please tell me) where I bring you the best tracks and videos from the week in music! Every Friday I’ll post some exciting new leaks to get you through the weekend. Here are some of my favourites from the past week:

Chromatics "Candy"

You know a group is onto something when they’ve been attached to the same aesthetic and sound across many years and albums but they never seem to get redundant. "Candy" is another ice-cold Italo stunner from the group’s upcoming new album complete with dusty visuals. Check it out below.

Odd Future "NY (Ned Flander)"

Speaking of groups that follow the same aesthetic Odd Future are still on that same disjointed rap delivery that they’ve been doing for the last few years. Thankfully it’s still working as heard on the playfully depressing boom-bap of "NY (Ned Flander)."

The Cribs "Come On Be A No-One"

I’ve never really given The Cribs a chance as I’d assumed they were another faceless NME band. Truthfully they kinda are but new track "Come On Be A No-One" has some amazingly crunchy guitars an awesome chorus and that classic Pixies-ian loud-quiet-loud dynamic.

Mirrorring "Fell Sound"

If you didn’t know Grouper’s Liz Harris and Tiny Vipers’ Jesy Fortino have teamed up to form the duo Mirrorring. They’re working on Foreign Body their debut for Kranky and they’ve offered up a sample of the collaboration with "Fell Sound." If you’re a fan of these artists it’s exactly what you’d expect — an atmospheric haunting fantastic work.

Soulja Boy "Kim Kardashian"

Aside from maybe Waka Flocka Soulja Boy is the most entertaining user on Instagram all diamond encrusted Xbox controllers and constant crew parties in his mansion. Fuck "real hip-hop" for a minute — "Kim Kardashian" is just as stupid and fun as your Friday should be. Check it out here .

White Fence "King of the Decade"

A great many "garage" artists have spent recent years proving themselves as folk auteurs. Among them is White Fence’s Tim Presley who moonlights as a member of the Strange Boys. "King of the Decade" is another of his warped mid-fi anthems and is definitely worth a spin.

White Lung "Thick Lip" (live)

A very different breed of "White" bands Vancouver ragers White Lung are set to release their sophomore album for Deranged Records this spring. I’ve heard it and it’s a serious monster. For now all I can give you is a live performance of the track "Thick Lip" shot at Vancouver’s Zoo Zhop. It’s a total riff attack.

Lil B God’s Father mixtape

At 34 tracks it’s hard to pinpoint a single must-listen track on Lil B’s new God’s Father mixtape but there’s something for everyone here from his goofball joking to his heart-on-sleeve introspective jams. Start with the David Banner diss "I Own Swag" check out the Bon Iver sample on "Deep Ass Thoughts" and conclude with the Wesley Willis confessional on "I Love You." Stream the whole thing below. Thank you Based God.
