Annual day to celebrate commuter cycling

Friday May 4 is Calgary’s sixth annual Bike to Work Day. A group of city officials including Aldermen John Mar Brian Pincott and Gian-Carlo Carra and Transportation administrators are participating in a 7:30 a.m. group ride from City Hall to Eau Claire Market.

Bike Calgary Advocacy Committee spokesperson Simon Chauvette says the Bike to Work Day is intended to inspire people to consider the benefits of commuting by bike and provide an opportunity to try it with others.

Bike to Work events are also held across North America throughout the spring and summer.

For those who are not motivated to ride this Friday for purely environmental reasons there will be a pancake breakfast at Eau Claire Market for the first 500 people to arrive between 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m.
