Weekly Leaks May 4

This column was written before news surfaced of the tragic passing of Beastie Boys member Adam "MCA" Yauch. If you’d rather just listen to the Beastie Boys all day no one could argue with that. I spent most of my week listening to the various projects of Fast Forward Weekly cover star Jean Sebastien Audet which you can check out here (start with Zouk Fuck then Darren Wantz then the rest). But there were some other things worth a spin or two as well.

Kuhrye-oo “Give In (For the Fame)”

I think Kuhrye-oo might be my favourite of the Edmonton/Montreal projects to emerge from Gobble Gobble (now Born Gold). On “Give In (For the Fame)” Calvin McElroy offers up some cut to shreds R & B alongside crazy warm atmospherics and some nice thick bass. Sure it sounds like “now” but not as though it’s trying hard to be the next post-dubstep or whatever. It’s just a solid honest track.

Valiska Record of 37

While I’m using stupid words like “atmospherics” I may as well offer up some more atmosphere with Valiska’s new city-themed soundscape. Record of 37 is a 14-track collection of field recordings taken on one city commute in downtown Calgary. As he writes “This release tries to bring together the noise and ambience that you hear in a modern city at times ear-piercingly loud at others whisper quiet.” Have a listen below and relive your Calgary commute.

Neil Young “Oh Susannah”

Because I’m a VIP in every imaginable way I’ve already heard the new Neil Young and Crazy Horse album Americana and it’s just as awesome as you’d imagine. You don’t have to imagine anymore though as there’s an official video for the band’s ragged take on “Oh Susannah.” Watch a little kid smoke cigarettes while Neil and co. crush this American standard.

PS I Love You Death Dreams

Speaking of amazing guitar work Kingston ON duo PS I Love You will release their sophomore epic Death Dreams next week. Easily one of the best Canadian albums of the year the whole thing can be streamed in full here .

2 Chainz “No Lie” featuring Drake

Next-big-thing producer Mike Will Made It drops some haunted house synths on 2 Chainz’ “No Lie.” The track belongs on the rapper’s major label debut and is assisted by my man Drake. Unfortunately they’ve only leaked the clean version for now but this is a solid track even without the curse words.

G.O.O.D. Music “I Don’t Like” (remix of Chief Keef)

Kanye West and his G.O.O.D. Music buds are planning a crew album so they’ve been leaking all kinds of tracks to the web. The latest is a remix of Chief Keef’s amazing “I Don’t Like.” The remix features West Pusha T Jadakiss and Big Sean. Check it out along with the house party themed video for the original.

Usher “Lemme See” featuring Rick Ross

Usher’s upcoming album has quickly become one of my most anticipated. After the Diplo-produced heartwrencher that was “Climax” he’s teamed up with Rick Ross for “Lemme See” which is another epic street anthem.

A$AP Rocky “Goldie”

Oh man A$AP Rocky has clearly spent his money well as you can tell from the crazy expensive visuals for “Goldie.” Dude’s living it up driving vintage cars around Paris and boasting about all his gold. Also this is NSFW due to boobies.
