Weekly Leaks June 8

Another week means another batch of Weekly Leaks. I went all Julian Assange on the blogosphere and compiled some of the most interesting things I found. Have a listen below and then do yourself a favour and seek out that new Usher leak.

Grizzly Bear “Sleeping Ute”

Okay I made fun of Grizzly Bear in this week’s High Five but new track “Sleeping Ute” is actually really awesome all busy guitars and wintery production. It almost sounds like a Brooklyn indie pop song as performed by Yes.

No Gold New Recipe :

Vancouver’s No Gold are best known for their sun-kissed pop melodies and tropical guitar runs but the group have gone a different route with their latest EP New Recipe . Built on minimal synths and club-oriented beats the EP was recorded live off the floor.

The Evaporators “Hot Dog High” (ft. Sage Francis Xaul Zan and Megan Barnes)

National treasure (seriously someone put this guy on a quarter) Nardwuar the Human Serviette has just dropped a video for his Busy Doing Nothing hit “Hot Dog High” and it’s basically the most fun you’ll have on your computer today. Essentially starting a punk rock party at North Vancouver’s fabled Tomahawk restaurant the band sings the praises of tube steaks in a way that will have you dreaming of a lunchtime trip to Tubby Dog.

Mac DeMarco “European Vegas” (video)

From his Alfred E. Neuman smile to his absolutely fucked sense of humour Mac DeMarco belongs on video just as much as he does on record. The clip for “European Vegas” has a higher budget than any of his other vids and it’s super weird as Mac gets tossed out of a limo in the middle of the desert. It’s confusing for sure but definitely worth a watch.

Killer Mike “Big Beast” (video) (ft. Bun B T.I. Trouble and El-P) :

There’s been no shortage of love for Killer Mike’s excellent R.A.P. Music album here at Fast Forward but the record has proven a gift that keeps on giving with the invigorating visuals for the track “Big Beast.” Taking direct cues from last year’s fantastic film Drive this is more a thrilling 9-minute short film than a straight up rap video.

Waka Flocka Flame Triple F Life Next week Waka Flocka Flame will finally release the follow-up to 2010’s testosterone rap masterpiece Flockaveli . And while Triple F Life sees Waka cleaning up his act and toning down the rage a little it’s far from a goofball pop crossover record. Instead it toes a welcome line between radio-friendly sheen and rugged street anthems.
