Weekly Leaks June 15

Well it’s Friday again meaning you need a Friday soundtrack. While Rebecca Black’s anthem is the obvious choice it’s kind of stale at this point isn’t it? I mean obviously we all listen to that song every Friday morning before we start our days but it’s time to find a new weekend anthem. All of this is a roundabout and mostly stupid way of saying that you should check out some new music from the last week.

Dirty Projectors “Dance for You”

Progressive indie popsters the Dirty Projectors will release a new album called Swing Lo Magellan on July 10. The group have just dropped another single from the release in “Dance for You” another one of their insane disjointed and weird arrangements that’s strangely poppy and endearing.

Jeff the Brotherhood Hypnotic Knights EP

For a decidedly different breed of rock music insanely addictive duo Jeff the Brotherhood have posted a full stream of their fantastic EP Hypnotic Knights . Not only is it a precursor to their upcoming album Hypnotic Nights but it’s also the least annoying thing that the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach has ever had his hand in (he produced this EP). In fact it completely rules.

Mount Eerie "Pale Lights"

Anacortes indie rock wizard Phil Elverum has just announced plans to release Ocean Roar his second new full-length of the year. The first taste of this record is "Pale Lights" a track that is at once enormous and intimate.

Wild Nothing “Shadow”

Is it possible to have too much hazy dream pop in your life? If it’s as good as Wild Nothing the answer is no it’s never possible. The group just announced a new album and you can hear the breezy first single “Shadow” below.

French Montana “Pop That” (ft. Rick Ross Drake and Lil Wayne)

Okay no more indie music. French Montana’s giant single from his upcoming Bad Boy debut is well an enormous club banger with dream-like synths a million hi-hat hits and big names like Rick Ross Drake and Lil Wayne helping out. It’s tons of stupid fun which is all you really need from mainstream pop rap.

Rick Ross “Power Circle” (ft. Gunplay Stalley Wale Meek Mill and Kendrick Lamar)

Speaking of Ricky Rozay the boss is gearing up to release the new Maybach Music Group record Self Made 2 . To celebrate they’ve just dropped the insane posse cut “Power Circle.” The beat has some goofy saloon piano runs and plenty of that Australian girl who says “What is this Maybach Music.” There’s also a crazy cross-section of rappers including thugs like Gunplay and just enough Kendrick Lamar to appease the James Wilts of the world.

Waka Flocka Flame “Rooster in My Rari” (video)

Waka Flocka Flame’s new video for “Rooster in My Rari” is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen in the best way possible. Flocka just chills in a parking lot with a bunch of ladies while someone in a rooster costume dances around. There’s also a rapper in a studded punk vest which is always nice to see. The whole thing is awful. Awfully awesome.

Chris Brown vs. Drake

Sure it’s not exactly a music video but Chris Brown and Drake recently got into an alleged altercation at a New York bar supposedly because they’re beefing over Rihanna. Rather than explain it to you myself I’ll let this Taiwanese news animation do the talking.
