I. Courtney Love
Though you’d think they’d have become close friends in a mutual plastic surgeon’s waiting room by now Courtney Love doesn’t exactly give off the impression of respect when talking about endlessly swaying pop star Lana Del Rey. When the latter recently went viral for butchering a cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” in Australia C-Love had some choice words on Twitter. “You do know the song is about my vagina right? Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back umm” Love said referencing the anatomy anthem. “So umm next time you sing it think about my vagina will you? lol xc.” The Tweets have since been deleted but not before we could all have a long think about that time Lana Del Rey’s collagen-injected lips sang a song about Courtney Love’s lady parts.
II. Snoop Lion
Don’t feel dumb for being surprised at this because I didn’t know about it either but apparently California rapper Snoop Dogg loves himself some marijuana. Absolutely adores the stuff. He loves the doobies so much in fact that he was just banned from Norway for two years thanks to some pot possession. But that was the old Snoop. The new Snoop was “born again” in Jamaica earlier this year and he’s reinvented himself as Snoop Lion. Now he’s embracing Rastafarianism and working on a reggae album with Diplo called Reincarnated . So now we have to change that sentence from earlier in the paragraph: Snoop Lion loves himself some marijuana.
III. Thurston Moore
Most people use their mid-life crisis to buy a sports car or get a feather earring but recently single and eternally cool dude Thurston Moore is not spending his autumn years going grey but rather black. Black metal that is. According to various reports Moore has teamed up with Nachtmystium’s Blake Judd alongside The Atlas Moth’s Stavros Giannopoulos Leviathan’s Wrest and Krieg’s Imperial to work on the third LP from supergroup Twilight. No word yet on the title or release date but it’s expected this fall from Century Media.
IV. Jean SebastiEn Audet
Speaking of reggae and black metal I wouldn’t be surprised if local golden boy Jean Sebastien Audet decided to crank out some riddims and blast beats in between his work with Faux Fur the You Are Minez Zouk Fuck and whatever other project he’s started in the time it took to write this. You want to know how addicted he is to recording? He recently told me that he will make an entire album for anyone who wants one and give them the masters. Yes that’s right. All you have to do is email yewnorkrecords@gmail.com tell Audet your name and where you live and he’ll make you your own personal album that you can keep just for yourself or show anyone you want. Damn those teenagers and their spare time.
V. Olivia Tremor Control
And now some sad news: Bill Doss a core member of The Olivia Tremor Control and part of the beloved Elephant 6 collective has passed away at the age of 43. As of press time the cause of death is unknown.
