Congratulations to Calgary author Will Ferugson who’s officially on the shortlist for Canada’s top literary award The Giller Prize.
Ferguson’s prestigious nod comes courtesy of his novel 419 which looks at the fascinating world of Nigerian Internet scammers in the context of the social and environmental devastation wrought by predatory Big Oil interests in the African nation.
Also on the short list: Alix Ohlin’s Inside Nancy Richler’s The Imposter Bride Kim Thuy’s Ru and Russell Wangersky’s Whirl Away .
The nominees were selected from a 13 book long list by a three person jury of acclaimed writers — Roddy Doyle Anna Porter and Gary Shteyngart. (The long list was wittled down from 142 entries.) The winner will be announced October 30. Good luck Will.
