Pusha T – Wrath of Caine

G.O.O.D. Music

After a couple of fantastic releases as half of Clipse as well as some pretty stellar guest spots on G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer it was exciting to hear of a highly anticipated new album on the way from Pusha T. Fortunately we’re treated to an early taste of what’s to come with this free mixtape. The introduction alone is reason enough to stick around for a pretty strong mix. The next track “Millions” featuring Rick Ross would keep up the pace if it wasn’t for the annoying chorus sample of “millions in the ceiling” and an amateur-sounding beat by Southside and co-produced by Kanye West. It’s to be assumed that Pusha T is saving his hard-hitting beats for the full-length release so I’ll let it slide.

“Doesn’t Matter” features French Montana who has the Auto-Tune on his vocals so thick he sounds like a sick android. It’s another unwelcome distraction to what could be a decent jam. The pacing isn’t very exciting. The beats are pretty hazy for the most part and that slows down Pusha T’s excellent flow.

Fortunately he is back with the Neptunes on “Revolution.” It’s a short but sweet minimal beat (for the Neptunes) that Pusha T flows well on. Other than the distractions it’s a nice introduction to what will hopefully be a killer debut full-length release.
