Special screening of I Am Breathing

A film about the last few months in the life of a dying man is being shown in Calgary and around the world on Friday June 21 as part of a Global Screening Day to raise awareness and support for Motor Neuron Disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

I am Breathing from the Scottish Documentary Institute follows the last months of Neil Platt who died at age 34. During a short period of time he went from being a healthy young husband and father to being paralyzed and requiring a ventilator. In the film he is preparing to die at the same time his young son is beginning his life. Platt collaborated with the filmmakers and wrote a blog about his experience in an effort to increase awareness about the disease and help the effort to find a cure.

The film debuted at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam in November 2012 to positive reviews and is on Indiewire’s Docs to Watch in 2013 list. I Am Breathing is screening at the Globe Cinema at 5 p.m. as part of the global campaign.
