HSCA flood relief concert

Today (Wednesday June 26) the Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association held a benefit concert for victims of the flood in their community. While they’re still calculating exactly how much they raised the event was a major success with hundreds of Calgarians coming out to check out live music bask in the sun and enjoy the farmer’s market vendors beer garden and food trucks.

Bands that performed included Knots Hexray Cousins Chad VanGaalen (making a very rare appearance) Lab Coast Feel Alright and Samantha Savage Smith. Some photos from their sets along with a very special guest are available below.

Knots kicked off the festivities:

Up next were locals Hexray :

The makeshift beer garden in the tennis courts was packed as attendees filled up on Brew Brothers beer:

Chad VanGaalen played a brief set with all of the songs he could remember on guitar:

Lab Coast performed to a packed crowd:

Feel Alright ‘s set was interrupted by some belligerent dude named Nenshi (who for what it’s worth delivered a moving and hilarious speech):

Samantha Savage Smith made at least one new fan at the show:

Then Nenshi and I ate some cherries and discussed how we were going to solve everyone’s problems:
