Fund to help flooded artists gets boost

The Alberta Arts Flood Rebuild Fund initiated by Calgary Arts Development on June 28 today received $50000 from Suncor Energy Foundation. Suncor also pledges to match other donations up to a total of an additional $50000.

The AAFR Fund is accessible through InvestYYC.com a crowdfunding platform for the local arts community. People and organizations interested in donating can do so on InvestYYC.com or by emailing rebuild@calgaryartsdevelopment.com. To date the fund has raised $100000 including Suncor’s contribution and $40000 from Calgary Arts Development.

The flood has taken a toll on arts and culture venues and individual artists as so many in Calgary are located downtown and along the Bow and Elbow rivers.

Flood relief fundraising efforts are also being conducted in Calgary by The Alberta Dance Alliance at performances of its Feats Festival of Dance and events later this summer at the Gerry Thomas Gallery and Loose Moose Theatre.
