Floodmapping public info sessions coming

The provincial government is holding a series of information sessions over the next week for anyone interested in its flood recovery plans and mysterious new flood zone rules. Experts in flood mapping and disaster remediation will be present to answer the public’s questions.

The new policy announced July 14 allows flood victims to rebuild or relocate with funding from the Disaster Recovery Program. The province intends to create legislation prohibiting new developments inside designated floodway and people who rebuild within those floodways will not be given disaster relief in the event of a future flood.

City of Calgary media spokesperson Jessica Bell says "as these info sessions are based on the province’s determination about floodway maps and future Provincial relief for citizens in those areas and the Disaster Recovery Program at this time there won’t be any representatives from the city." However some aldermen may attend.

Sessions will be in Calgary from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. July 20 at the Blackfoot Inn and Canmore on July 22 at the Radisson Hotel from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
