City’s vital signs

The Calgary Foundation’s annual Vital Signs report was released October 1 based on input from residents about life in Calgary is. According to the foundation Vital Signs attempts to “measure the vitality” of life in the city.

The report found many Calgarians have a high standard of living an eagerness to volunteer and enjoy decreased green house gas emissions thanks to widespread transit use and renewable electricity in nearly all municipal buildings.

Unfortunately the Calgary Food Bank upped distribution by 34 per cent in 2012-2013 half of us live more than a kilometre away from a grocery store and 19 per cent of Calgarians aged 12 and over are “heavy drinkers” consuming five or more drinks on one occasion at least once a month.

Vital Signs was conducted by Praxis Group. It consisted of an online survey and random-sample phone survey of 846 people.
