Remembering missing or murdered First Nations women

As part of a nationwide movement to honour missing or murdered First Nations women the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NAWC) and Calgary members of Idle No More will hold the sixth annual memorial march on the evening of Friday February 14.

Sisters in Spirit a research project which began in 2005 estimates there are between 800 and 3000 missing aboriginal Canadian women. Despite the United Nations’ call for Canada to improve indigenous human rights based on NAWC’s work the federal government ceased its funding for Sisters in Spirit in 2010.
