City to look at voter turnout issues locally and abroad
While Coun. Druh Farrell’s motion to tighten up election campaign finance rules failed (see story on this page) her other suggestion to council to study ways of increasing voter turnout is good to go.
Farrell asked for a city report on the most current research into chronic voter apathy to be delivered by June 2016.
Voter turnout has fluctuated over the past three Calgary municipal elections. While only 19.8 per cent of those eligible cast their vote in 2007 53.3 per cent did in 2010 and 39.4 per cent in 2013.
