David Suzuki is in Calgary October 30 for his final national tour. The 78-year-old environmentalist is speaking at the U of C’s MacEwan Hall as part of his Blue Dot Tour where he will discuss his career as a conservationist and promote his campaign to include environmental rights in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
According to the Suzuki Foundation Suzuki’s Blue Dot movement calls on Canadians to pressure their municipalities to create declarations respecting people’s right to live in a healthy environment. Following that the movement aims to convince at least seven out of 10 provinces with at least 50 per cent of the population to write environmental rights into their respective charters. If successful at the provincial level Blue Dot followers will lobby the federal government to include the rights to clean and safe air water and food in the Charter.
Suzuki will also be joined by musicians Chad van Gaalen Royal Wood and Blue Rodeo’s Greg Keelor. He is speaking in 20 communities across Canada between September 24 to November 9.
General tickets for the Calgary event are sold out; some VIP tickets are still available. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.
