Godspeed You! Black Emperor to curate Sled Island 2015

Legendary Montreal rock collective Godspeed You! Black Emperor have been tapped to serve as guest curators at this year’s eighth annual Sled Island music festival.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor will offer programming suggestions for this year’s edition of the festival. The group will also perform two shows at Central United Church.

Since forming in 1994 the instrumental symphonic rock collective released critically acclaimed albums like F? A? ? Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven and Yanqui U.X.O. before disbanding in 2003.

In 2010 they reformed to complete some touring. Then with little forewarning they released their latest album ‘Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! in 2012. The album went on to win the Polaris Music Prize. The group released a statement that was critical of the prize saying "Maybe the next celebration should happen in a cruddier hall without the corporate banners and culture overlords." They donated their $30000 prize to an organization that buys instruments for Quebec’s prison inmates.

Sled Island’s 2015 edition runs from June 24 to 28 at various venues across Calgary. For ticketing information go here.
