Like vaccines and global warming it seems impossible to convince some people that a) there are plenty of happy cyclists in Calgary and b) riding in the winter isn’t just doable it’s bloody fun (and warm).

To that end the same folks who bring you Cyclepalooza Calgary’s annual celebration of all things bike are behind the second annual Winterpalooza.

Both festivals are community organized events meaning anyone can suggest an event to be included on the calendar between February 11 and 16. It kicks off today with a cycling photo booth on the south side of the Peace Bridge between 3:30 and 5:30. Roll up and get your photo taken and maybe even prove to a city councillor or two that you exist.

Other events include a scavenger hunt through Kensington a trip to the "beach" ice races a poker run a polar run and a Valentine’s party. It’s a great way to meet up with other winter cycling enthusiasts or to try your hand at cold-weather riding with groups that know what they’re doing.
