Project Pablo – I Want to Believe

If there’s ever been a release to make 1080p Collection a household name in electronic music it’s Project Pablo’s I Want to Believe. Following a few short-form releases and a move from Vancouver to Montreal producer Patrick Holland capitalizes on any and all hype on his first full-length foray churning out one of the most solid pieces of modern house in ages. But I Want to Believe is hardly just a house record. Despite a huge reliance on meaty 4/4 beats and some incredibly funked-up grooves it’s really a lavish spread of dance music past and present. Amongst its nine space-aged tracks is everything from Arthur Russell disco tropes Daft Punk retro-futurism kosmische synth psychedelia and classic Warp IDM weirdness making the whole thing as cerebral as it is physical. Adding an extra layer is some impressive real-live bass work along with hypnotic bursts of out-there percussion and — best of all — just the right amount of canned muzak cheese.

At its core though I Want to Believe is all about the melodies with each track delicately slipping into your subconscious via an impressive arsenal of hooks. Want to believe? In the case of Project Pablo it couldn’t be easier.
