Win tickets to CUFF’s gala screening of An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn and the official after-party

Ten days.

Ten more days and some of the most amazing, challenging and entertaining films will take over the two Globe Cinema screens for the 15th annual Calgary Underground Film Festival, which runs April 16-22.

As media sponsors, supporters of arts and culture in Calgary, and simply lovers of alternative flicks, we’re excited. Are you?

How about we help you get excited?

We want to send you and a pal/lover/companion/sibling/parent/whatev to opening night.

The film? It’s the Monday, April 16 Canadian premiere screening of 2018 Sundance fave An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn from filmmaker Jim Hosking, where both Hosking and actor Sky Elobar (better known to many from his starring role in the director’s other film The Greasy Strangler, called by Rolling Stone, “2016’s most disgusting movie”) will be in attendance.

The film, which also stars Aubrey Plaza, Emile Hirsch, Jemaine Clement and Craig Robinson, is described by CUFF thusly: “After getting fired by her scheming husband Shane Danger (Emile Hirsch) from his cappuccino shop, dissatisfied Lulu Danger (Aubrey Plaza) is stunned when a TV commercial for ‘An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn For One Magical Night Only’ reveals a mysterious man from her past (Craig Robinson). When Shane and his bumbling cohorts steal the cashbox from Lulu’s adopted vegan brother Adjay, specialist Colin (Jemaine Clement) enters the fray to retrieve the stolen funds. Lulu seizes this opportunity to run off in search of her mystery man — and events only become stranger from there. The new film from madman Jim Hosking is sure to make you laugh and cringe in equal measures.”

Sounds like a good ‘er.

Wanna go?

Wait! Don’t answer yet!

How ’bout we sweeten the deal by also getting you and a friend into the official, exclusive, chi-chi after-party at The Derrick Gin Mill and Kitchen right across the street?

Sound good?

We’re not going to ask much of you.

To enter to win one of the two pairs of tickets we have, all you need to do is head to our Facebook page, please give us a “like,” and leave a comment under the posting telling us your favourite CUFF film from any of the previous 14 years. It’s not something we can fact-check — you’re on the honour system here — and there is no right answer, we just want to know that the tickets are going to a film lover and someone who has supported this amazing festival in the past.

We’ll pick a couple of winners at random and let them know by the end of the day Friday, April 13 (fingers crossed it’s a lucky one) via direct message.

Good luck.

(By the way, we also have a separate contest for tickets for those who’ve pledged $10 or more a month for our Patreon campaign. The odds of winning are probably much better should you do that AND you’ll be supporting independent arts and culture writing in your city. Just saying.)
