Top picks for getting out April 12 – 18 including The Electric Six, Cut Copy DJs, CUFF and more

Oh, look. More snow. However I am looking at my list o’ things to do around town and it warms my heart. We can always take solace in our city’s vibrant culture, so here’s what I have for you this week:

Thursday: The Electric Six make their annual stop at The Gateway tonight (Danger! Danger!) and over at Lunchbox Theatre you can catch Birnton Theatricals’ presentation of I and You (this is a night time show, folks. If you head to Lunchbox during the day you’ll see Miss Caledonia, which is also a great idea. Do both.)

Friday: Ghost River Theatre is having their 25th Anniversary Party over at the West Village Theatre, so you should definitely go check that out and support this amazing theatre company! Songs4Ken will feature John Wort Hannam, The PolyJesters, Brooke Wylie, Mike Stack, Maria Dunn and John Rutherford, and is a night of music in art in support of the ALS Society of Alberta over at Southwood United Church. Over at the Ironwood you can take in Jory Kinjo — all great options!

Saturday: Cut Copy DJs will play at Commonwealth, and for something a little more traditional, Calgary Opera presents Tosca over at the Jubilee (I’ll be up in the nosebleeds, wave at me!). Over at Nite Owl you can take in Grindhaus – Disco Valhalla which looks to be super fun. Maybe hit that after the opera?

Monday: It’s here! The Calgary Underground Film Festival runs tonight until April 22 at The Globe Theatre and will feature so many great films PLUS the Found Footage Festival! You’ve got to check that out for sure. Also, Wordfest presents Sane Takes on an Insane World Festival with authors and readings happening until April 23. Check the schedules for both and figure out your strategy!

Tuesday: Spirit Fire Theatre presents All in the Timing & Fifteen Minute Hamlet over at the Pumphouse Theatres.

Wednesday: Hey! Night Committee is playing at the Ship & Anchor with Des Arcs and Less Miserable. That’s a great way to spend a Wednesday right there.

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
