Top picks for getting out April 26 – May 2 including Calgary Expo, The Kinkonauts, PVRIS and more

It’s spring! Time to start spending more time outdoors and socializin’! So many things to do in town this weekend! What kinds of things, you ask? Well, let me tell you…

Thursday: The 13th Annual Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo will be taking place at the BMO Centre, with the POW! Parade of Wonders happening Friday along Stephen Avenue. You MUST be in costume to be in the parade, but anyone can watch! Feel like some dance? Some puppets? Head over to the DJD Centre to catch Decidedly Jazz’s production of Mimic, running until May 5. Tonight and tomorrow you have a chance to catch The Kinkonauts in their production Radio Daze: Live improvised 1920’s Radio Play at Lougheed House. So much fun! But then there’s music… PVRIS North American Tour 2018 happens at The Palace tonight as well.

FridayDisenchanted! presented by Cappuccino Musical Theatre runs until April 28 at West Village Theatre. For film and orchestra together at last, The Great Human Odyssey presented by Calgary Philharmonic is a great choice, or head to Workshop Studios for their date night where you can create some clay stuff with your hands. YOUR HANDS! And your date’s hands. Go nuts. The Beaches with Taylor Knox will be at Commonwealth if that’s more your thang.

Saturday: Donovan Woods performs at The Gateway, and for the scientist in all of us, Astrophysics on the Cutting Edge: Open House at the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory takes place at 8 & 11 p.m. Mandible Klaw with Chernobyl Wolves, Unwashed and Paint the Damage are at Palomino, so there’s that.

Tuesday: Bloodshot Dawn at Distortion? Sure!

Wednesday: Wordfest presents Timeless Tour: Genevieve Graham & Susanna Kersley at Memorial Park Library, and here’s something super fun – Being EXTRA (Comedy Storytelling) at Commonwealth Bar. Comedy, stories, comedic stories… good times written all over this one, people. For more of your dance fix, All of Us Featuring the music of The Tragically Hip presented by Alberta Ballet runs until May 5, so you should definitely check that out. Ending the week (well, the week according to me) Born Ruffians will be at The Gateway tonight. Enjoy!

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
