Top Picks for getting out July 12 – 18 including Luke Bryan, Candide and Big Slam

We’re in the home stretch of Stampede, keep noshing on those deep-fried everythings for sustenance and you should be able to make it to Sunday night. In the meantime it’s still all systems go, so get ready for the weekend thusly …

Thursday: Peking Duk with guests will be at Commonwealth, while local act Reijo will be over at the King’s Head Pub. Feel like a nice drive? Head to the Banff Centre for their operatic performance Orphée+ at the Eric Harvie Theatre (or go Saturday, your choice!) and then over at Studio Bell you’ll find Dustin Bentall with Sean Burns and the Windy City Band.

Friday: There’s the Inglewood Night Market which is always great, and then the Oxford Stomp featuring John Fogerty, Melissa Etheridge, The Skydiggers, Barney Bentall (hey, any relation to Dustin???) and then Magnolia Buckskin plays the Ironwood.

Saturday: Take in one of the last Stampede breakfasts at the Stampede on 17th taking place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Tomkins Park — family fun all day, people! There’s also a free Kings of Leon concert happening at Knoxvilles, get your tickets quick! Feel like something a bit more … big? Luke Bryan is over at the Saddledome. Or how about the Big Slam at Brewery Flats (1100 11 St. S.E.), featuring Lagwagon, Seaway, Whitey Houston, Sellout and more bands along with craft beer, river surfing and more.

Sunday: Head up to Banff (again)! Check out their production of Leonard Bernstein’s Candide at the amphitheatre there. How amazing will this be?

Wednesday: We’ve Read this Book Club presented by Wordfest features The Italian Teacher by Tom Rachman. Go be literary! The head over to Vern’s to check out Lost Nebula with In/Vertigo and Syryn.
