You’ll find that out should you venture down to East Village on any Saturday (with the exception of Labour Day weekend) from Aug.11, to Sept. 8.
The National Music Centre is once again hosting its free Saturdays In C-Square events, which will bring music and more life to the area from 1-4 p.m.
The shows, which take place on the corner of 7th Ave. and 4th St. S.E., feature some of the region’s finest acts and artists from an amazing array of genres.

Aug. 11, 2018: Kaley Kinjo & The Blatant Duo
Description: Head down to East Village’s beautiful plaza for the first weekend of Saturdays in C-Square with Kaley Kinjo & The Blatant Duo! Singer-songwriter Kaley Kinjo began his professional career playing bass for a slew of Calgary acts. He has previously released an EP alongside his brother, Jory, under the name Kinjo Brothers, and has performed with JK & The Relays, JK & The Static, and The Mocking Shadows.
Aug. 18, 2018: Mountainview Chamber Ensemble
Description: Take in a world-class classical concert in East Village’s beautiful new plaza. Founded in 1994, the International Festival of Song and Chamber Music Society provide opportunities for young musicians from across Canada and around the world to gain valuable experience performing and perfecting the song and chamber music repertoire.
Aug. 25, 2018: RIEL & friends
Description: How are you planning to celebrate Calgary Pride weekend? Catch Metis singer-songwriter RIEL and local DJs performing in celebration of Calgary Pride’s opening weekend festivities—dancing shoes recommended Soulful singer-songwriter Damase Ellis (aka RIEL) has been compared to a variety of incredible vocalists, including Adele and Tracey Chapman. An openly non-binary artist, their work reflects their experiences as a racialized member of the LGBT community, with a hint of imagination.
Sept. 8, 2018: Calgary Creative Arts Ensemble
Description: On Sept. 8, East Village’s beautiful plaza will bring you smooth jazz musings from the Calgary Creative Arts Ensemble (CCAE). The Calgary Creative Arts Ensemble is Western Canada’s newest contemporary jazz orchestra. Co-led by drummer Jon McCaslin, trumpeter Andre Wickenheiser, trombonist Carsten Rubeling and saxophonist Mark DeJong, the CCAE brings together 17 of Western Canada’s finest musicians to collaborate with local, national, and international performers and composers.
