Top picks for getting out Aug. 16 – 22 including Country Thunder, Iliza Shlesinger and, yes, Alice Cooper

There’s something so … interesting … about feeling you’re on a post-apocalyptic film set these days. Wow – smoke, amirite? Grab your pollution mask and head out there, because summer is (sorry to break this to you) nearly over, and we still have tons o’ fun to pack in. Such as?

Thursday: GlobalFest begins it’s annual firework competition/festival up at Elliston Park tonight (theme: Ukraine!) and runs five nights over the next ten days, so get yourself up there for some amazing world-class fireworks. Over at the King Eddy you can catch Mother Sun with Octoduck, and the Dead Elvis Bash will be taking place at the Ironwood.

Friday: Comic Iliza Shlesinger brings her Elder Millennial show to the Grey Eagle tonight, and Markus Schulz with guests Dennis Sheperd & Mackwa will be at the Palace. Country fans rejoice! Country Thunder hits Prairie Winds Park tonight and runs until Sunday with acts such as Eric Church, Dierks Bentley and Toby Keith.

Saturday: Start the day right at the Ship & Anchor for Busker Du hosting open stage with Heartbreak Etcetera? from 2-6 p.m. Later, head to the Grey Eagle to catch classic rockers Nazareth, or take off to Banff to see Jesse Cook at the Shaw Amphitheatre.

Sunday: Brewery & The Beast — a culinary tasting experience takes place at Fort Calgary. Food. Drink. Yes.

Monday: Ben Harper! Ben Harper & Charlie Musslewhite will perform at the Jubilee.

Wednesday: Oh. Yes. Take in A Paranormal Evening with Alice Cooper at the Jubilee. And now I’m going to be singing Black Widow all day. Well, let’s face it, I sing that song to myself on most days. My brothers really influenced my musical tastes.

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
