If you’ve taken a look at the lineup for this year’s Calgary International Film Festival you know it’s a stacked slate of films that will be taking over some of the city’s screens from Sept. 19 to 30.
Drama, comedy, thrillers, horror, documentaries, short films and so much more — it’s difficult to decide what to see and when.
Well, we’re going to make it a little easier for you. But also a little harder.
The fine folks at the fest, of which theYYSCENE are proud sponsors, have given us a pair of passes for two shows on the first Friday night of the fest (Sept. 21)
The first one is a 6:30 p.m., Eau Claire screening of the doc on bad ass musician Joan Jett called Bad Reputation. Directed by Kevin Kerslake, the film looks at the groundbreaking career of the artist, her journey in the ’70s act The Runaways to her ongoing solo work. If you love the rock and the roll, this is a good ‘er.
The second one is a 7:45 p.m. showing of the financial thriller The Hummingbird Project, with an all-star cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Alexander Skarsgård and Salma Hayek. On their website, Calgary Film describes it as an “epic tale of humanity versus corporate greed (from) the director of the Academy Award-nominated War Witch, Kim Nguyen, (which) exposes the ruthless edge of our increasingly digital world.”
So there you go. Two great films, one Friday night.
Now: Decide.
That’s it.
Pick a movie, head to our Facebook page, find this post, comment underneath letting us know which movie you want to see and tag a friend that you want to take or who might be interested.
We’ll let the winners know via direct message by the end of the day on Thursday, Sept. 20.
Good luck and go see some more of what the Calgary International Film Festival has to offer over the next two weeks.
