Win tickets to see Wendesday’s Wordfest event with author Gary Shteyngart

One of this fall’s most buzzed-about books is Lake Success by American author Gary Shteyngart.

The canny crew at Wordfest were smart enough to snag the writer of other works such as Super Sad True Love Story and Little Failure for an event this week as something of a lead-up to their festival proper, which takes place Oct. 8-15.

The evening with Shteyngart takes place Wednesday, Oct. 3 at the DJD Dance Centre and will feature an interview onstage conducted by Richard Kemick, followed by an audience Q&A and a book-signing.

We’ll get more into what Lake Success is in our interview which will be running on this site Tuesday (check back!), but here’s the story in a nutshell provided by the publisher:

Narcissistic, hilariously self-deluded, and divorced from the real world as most of us know it, hedge-fund manager Barry Cohen oversees $2.4 billion in assets. Deeply stressed by an SEC investigation and by his three-year-old son’s diagnosis of autism, he flees New York on a Greyhound bus in search of a simpler, more romantic life with his old college sweetheart. Meanwhile, his super-smart wife, Seema—a driven first-generation American who craved the picture-perfect life that comes with wealth—has her own demons to face. How these two flawed characters navigate the Shteyngartian chaos of their own making is at the heart of this piercing exploration of the 0.1 Percent, a poignant tale of familial longing and an unsentimental ode to what really makes America great.

It’s a great book and it should be a great night out.

We’d love to help. Thanks to those very same Wordfest folks, we have a pair of tickets to give away to the event. If you’d like them, please head to our Facebook page, find this posting, and leave a comment underneath telling us your favourite Shteyngart book and tag the person you want to take with you. We will let the winner know via direct message by end of day Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Good luck and good reading.
