Win tickets to Cartel Madras at the King Eddy as part of the Alberta Spotlight series

The best of AB music keeps on a-comin’ — any style, any genre and any awesome.

The National Music Centre’s Alberta Spotlight series delivers world-class sounds made in the area and the latest concert is the perfect one to showcase that, with a superb lineup of homegrown hip-hop

Calgary’s Cartel Madras headline the show, which should see them tearing the roof off of the King Eddy on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Dubbing their style “Treaty 7 Tamil Goonda Rap,” the female hip-hop duo of Contra and Eboshi — along with DJ Egglad — are a mix of Dirty South, old-school, electro, funk and dub, but all nasty, empowered, excellent badassery.

Have a listen (but maybe with your headphones on):

Also on the bill is fellow local rapper Jae Sterling and Edmonton producer Hood Joplin.

Again, it should be a night of raw rhymes and meaty beats.

And it’s one that we want you to go to. As proud sponsors of the Alberta Spotlight series, our friends have kindly given us tickets to give away to the gig.

To enter, please head to our Facebook page, find this post, and comment under it tagging a friend that you want to take to the show. That’s it, we’ll let the winner know by noon on the Wednesday, so make sure you’re good to go.

Yes, it’s a school night, but you deserve it.
