You know, Christmas isn’t the most wonderful time of the year, Halloween is. Is there anything better than buying truckloads of mini chocolate bars and spending the day looking at pictures of your friend’s cute kids in costumes? Maybe knowing that you don’t have children so you can eat all of the chocolate by yourself and then go and have a nap … that’s better. Wait, where was I? Oh! Stuff happening this week! I got it!
Thursday: Tokyo Police Club with guests Fleece will hit the Commonwealth stage tonight, or if you’re more inclined towards the classical side of music, the CPO presents Rush Hour: Hits over at the Jack Singer Concert Hall. Halloween stuff has started! Check out Halloween in Hell VII featuring a whole schwack of bands over at Broken City.
Friday: Too much choice! Seriously, you might have to do some strategic planning here: Jill Barber brings her Metaphora Tour to the Bella Concert Hall with guest Justin Nozuka, or perhaps you take in Body in Space: An Art Party presented by Swallow-a-Bicycle Theatre and Springboard Performance over at cSPACE King Edward as part of Fluid Fest. Skratch Bastid will be at the Gateway, and the 9th Annual Cemetery of Sound featuring Illenium, Oliver Heldens, KSHMR, Shaun Frank, Radical Redemption, Stickybuds and more will be at the BMO Centre. And, for those who need to give ‘r, Nightseeker will perform with Riot City & Denimachine over at Broken City.
Saturday: It’s The Dudes! Their annual Halloween shindig will take place at the Gateway tonight, and over at the Palace you can find Classified with guests. The CUFF 12-Hour Halloween Horror Movie Marathon takes place 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. (they aren’t kidding, 12 hours!) at the Globe Cinema, and for you market-types, the Vintage Redefined Market will be at the Thorncliffe Greenview Community Centre from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Tuesday: There are still some great seats left for Reuben and the Dark performing over at the Jack Singer Concert Hall … just sayin’.
Wednesday: Halloween! The one day a year I don’t get razzed for wearing all black! Aside from the horror house-type events such as Screamfest or Grim Manor, you can also take in Bright Lights presented by Theatre BSMT over at the Pumphouse (aliens!) or I Know What You Did Last … Halloween is a murder mystery dinner at Fort Calgary. Maybe you go to the Ship & Anchor to look at costumes that you never in a million years would have thought of and that make you feel shame for your lame wig and cape. Your call.
There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
