Top picks for getting out Dec. 6 – Dec. 12 including Tenacious D, Market Collective, and Bill & Joel Plaskett

Hey! Where to start? There is legit so many things going on in town in the next week that I am going to just jump right into it because yes, sure, my witty ramblings are delightful, but you’re really here for the low-down on what’s happening. It’s OK, I get it. We’re cool.

Thursday: Head on out to Deerfoot city between now and Dec. 9 to check out Make It! The Handmade Revolution with more than 130 of Canada’s top artists, makers and crafters (gift ideas, people!). Over at Dickens Pub it’s Ed the Sock’s “War on Stupid” Tour, and Ellen Doty is in the Alberta Spotlight at Studio Bell. Steve Pineo’s 12th Annual Christmas Celebration takes place tonight until Sunday at the Ironwood, and Harsh, Cheap Beer & guests will be at Broken City.

Friday: It’s the Market Collective’s 10-Year Anniversary & Holiday Market this weekend at the BMO Centre (gift ideas, people!), and at the Bella Concert Hall you can catch Bill & Joel Plaskett with the Mayhemingways, and for something seasonal take in Calgary Opera’s Amahl & the Night Visitors by Gian Carlo Menotti at the Mamdani Opera Centre this weekend.

Saturday: It’s the Prime Time Big Band in the afternoon at the Ironwood, and in the evening you have your pick of Three Days Grace – The Outsider Tour with guests Nothing More & Bad Wolves at the Grey Eagle, The Tenors – Home for the Holidays: Christmas Classics & The Hits at the Jubilee (take your mom!), and Andrew Bayer with Ben Bohmer at The Palace.

Sunday: It’s the Holiday Village presented by Tigerstedt Flea and Crescent Heights CA — holiday market, crafts, performances and more! Non-perishable food items and toiletry donations will be collected, so go shop and support! Feel like a movie with the kids? Movies at The Grand features Elf (2003) from 1-3 p.m. at, uh, The Grand, and Winter Fantasia, a showcase of the work of the MRU Conservatory choral ensembles takes place at the Bella Concert Hall.

Monday: Tenacious D with guests will be at the Grey Eagle (sold out show on Sunday, get your tickets quick for this one), and Tom Olsen & The Wreckage will be at the Blues Can.

Tuesday: It’s Home for the Holidays with Johnny Reid presented by the CPO and taking place at the Jubilee, and Naughty… but Nice! The Big V presented by Forte Musical Theatre Guild at Lunchbox Theatre (it’s an evening performance! No worries about it interfering with It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play that takes place during the day!).

Wednesday: Oh look! The Lovebullies will be playing over at the Blues Can. Perfect.

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
