Top picks for getting out Jan. 10- 16 including the High Performance Rodeo, John Wort Hannam and Kongos

I hope you all had a chance to rest up, because now we’re entering the second week of January and holiday mode is officially off. There’s a little bit of everything this week, so whatever you’re into, you’ll be busy. Case in point …

Thursday: It’s Adults Only Night: Embrace Outer Space at Telus SPARK, while Daydream Kids with Yvette & the Quivers will be at Broken City, and you may have heard of a little thing called the High Performance Rodeo? Well it all kicks off this week and tonight you can take in Live Your Prime, with Damien Frost in the Big Secret Theatre, or maybe head over to DJD to check out Better Get Hit in Your Soul. This is just the beginning.

Friday: CUFF presents Lords of Chaos over at the Globe Cinema at 7:30 p.m., and at the Ironwood you can find John Wort Hannam. I used to buy records (actual vinyl records) from him when he worked at Music World in Chinook. He’s good people, go and support. Or maybe you hit up the Blues Can for the Du-Rite Aces? Your High Performance Rodeo pick for tonight is This Little Piggie at the Royal Canadian Legion downtown. Should be good!

Saturday: Take in some of our city’s great art galleries in the afternoon, why don’t ya? Black (A Group Show) is on over at Herringer Kiss Gallery, for example. Then you can head up to MacEwan Hall for 8 p.m. to check out Bert Kreischer: Body Shots World Tour, or the Gateway for SkiiTour with Smalltown DJs. Pearle Harbour’s Chautauqua will be a great pick for the High Performance Rodeo, so there’s that.

Sunday: Take in an all-ages gig at Broken City with Living with Lions, Calling all Captains, Only The Strong, Worst Days Down and School of Rock. Yeah! Also, Calgary ProMusica: Music Up Close with Lysander Piano Trio will be at the Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall in the Rozsa Centre, U of C at 7 p.m.

Monday: Lunchbox Theatre presents Sansei: The Storyteller as part of the High Performance Rodeo at noon. Lunchtime theatre — where you can literally bring your lunch. Sweet.

Tuesday: It’s all HPR all the time, with Crawlspace by Karen Hines in the Studio at Theatre GRAND, and How to Disappear Completely in the Engineered Air Theatre.

Wednesday: This is That Live at the Jack Singer Concert Hall will be a hot ticket, as well as Kongos 1929 Tour with guests at the Commonwealth. Your HPR pick is Café Daughter presented by ATP in the Martha Cohen Theatre. There’s way more going on at the HPR, check their schedule for details.
