Top picks for getting out for the week of Feb. 21 – 27 including SoundOff Summit, Winefest, Calgary Midwinter Blues Fest and OKOTOKS

Oh, it’s all happening this week everyone. All of the everything – and if you think that I say that a lot, well, I do. It’s true! So much going on that I don’t know where to start, so I’ll just start here …

Thursday: The SoundOff Summit is happening this weekend! It’s a local music festival that showcases Calgary’s best talent to the community as well as national/international music industry professionals, so check out their schedule and take in some of the great music and seminars on offer! Alberta Views Live: Election Deep Dive is presented by Wordfest and takes place at Memorial Park Library this evening — get a fresh perspective on the upcoming provincial election with Kevin Van Tighem, Trevor Tombe and Susan Wright, hosted by Shelley Youngblut. Or head over to the Globe Cinema for Calgary Cinematheque’s presentation of Abuse of Weakness starring Isabelle Huppert at 7 p.m. You might still be able to get tickets to check out Snoop Dogg & Friends with guests Bone Thugs & Harmony, Warren G, Kurupt & Luniz over at the Saddledome. And Block Heater! Your chance to take in so many great bands including Basia Bulat, Ashley MacIssac, Cartel Madras, The Handsome Family, Samantha Savage Smith, The Wet Secrets and many more! All happening between Festival Hall, Studio Bell, King Eddy & the New Central Library. Block Heater runs until Saturday.

Friday: Winefest is also taking place this weekend, and that’s happening over at the BMO Centre Friday and Saturday. Scorpio Theatre presents Blood of the Red Queen: Citizen Smee at the Pumphouse Theatres, and Cold Cave with Adult & Sextile will be at the Marquee Beer Market & Stage.

Saturday: It’s my birthday, so everyone rejoice! Or, take in some Black History Month events, such as Dream, Identity & Diversity – A Celebration of Black History Month over at the Evergreen Theatre with keynote speaker Jesse Lipscombe. Long Range Hustle will perform at the Gateway, and The Bright Side Festival celebrating the opening of Calgary’s newest venue, Theatre 1308, will feature the Marc Atkinson Trio with Cameron Wilson tonight. MALAA with guests will be at The Palace, if that’s more your thing.

Sunday: Are you an Oscars fan? Get yourself to A Red Carpet Affair Oscars Celebration presented by the Calgary International Film Festival at The Palace. You could also check out the Home Free – Timeless World Tour over at the Jack Singer Concert Hall. Your call.

Monday: The Calgary Midwinter Blues Fest begins, featuring Tas Cru, Suzie Vinnick, Tony D, Rooster Davis, Ellen McIlwaine and many more. Check out their schedule for details! The festival runs until March 2.

Tuesday: Classical Revolution Calgary presents Sibelius & Janacek Quartets over at Gravity Espresso & Wine Bar, and up at the Jubilee you should definitely take in OKOTOKS presented by Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society and directed by Justin Many Fingers.
