It’s school you can use. And has a beat. And you can dance to it.
Red Bull Academy has announced that for the first time it will bringing their Bass Camp Series to Calgary for sessions at Studio Bell March 14 to 17.
Bass Camp collects together more than 20 up-and-coming “producers, vocalists and beatmakers” from across Canada, puts them in one place, and gives them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create, collaborate and learn from some of music’s best.
This year’s crop of teachers and mentors, who will offer advice and their words of wisdom during workshops and studio sessions, include RBMA Bass Camp alumnus Sandro Petrillo, River Tiber, Ango, Iron Galaxy, Richard Wenger and Matthew Salaciak.
There will also be a star-studded panel featuring some big names in North American music such as: Columbian-Canadian singer-songwriter Lido Pimienta, who won the 2017 Polaris Music Prize; American soul and R&B performer Jerry Williams Jr., who’s known to most as Swamp Dogg; and Gavin Rayna Rossum from Brooklyn heavyweights LCD Soundsystem.
Participants in this year’s Bass Camp are promised “an accelerated music education” in what is “a more condensed version of the world-renowned Red Bull Music Academy program.”
Announced artists who will benefit (or get their wings?) from their weekend at Studio Bell include:
From Calgary: Hounds, Ashley Velvet
From Edmonton: Text Chunk, Hood Joplin
From Vancouver: Debby Friday, Yu Su, Khotin, x/o, fvde
