Top picks for getting out for the week of Feb. 28 – March 6 including Calgary Midwinter Bluesfest, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, and Taggart and Torrens

Here’s the thing: there’s a lot to do around Calgary on any given day. My goal is to help guide you through the happenings and events, and sometimes it’s hard because there’s just SO MUCH. So yes, I present unto you more options than you can possibly fathom. It’s because I love.

Thursday: Head down to Lougheed House for Coming Home: A Centennial Celebration of the centennial year of the end of World War 1. You can enter a classic meat draw (yes!), take part in an Edwardian-style dance class or enjoy performances by the Kinkonauts. If you feel like heading out of town, Jill Barber will be at the Margaret Greenham Theatre, Banff Centre tonight, and over at the Rec Room you can catch Ted Leo & the Pharmacists. If blues music is your thing you are in luck! The Calgary Midwinter Bluesfest continues at various venues around downtown, including an acoustic showcase tonight at the King Eddy featuring Suzie Vinnick and Tony D.

Friday: The Bright Side Festival continues to celebrate the opening of Theatre 1308 with a Poetry Slam with Calgary’s own poet laureate, Sheri-D Wilson. Taggart and Torrens will bring their flavour of comedy to the Gateway, and Habib Koité, Bassekou Kouyate & Ladysmith Black Mambazo (Homeless!) will be at the Jack Singer Concert Hall. Cash Cash with Titus1 and Enzeo vs. Atmos will be at The Palace, and IMONOLITH will be at Dickens.

Saturday: Check out Chris Gheran at Gravity Espresso & Wine Bar, or Young the Giant’s Mirror Masters Tour over at MacEwan Hall. The Philosopher Kings will be at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino, and Andrew Rayel with Travus Lydian & Dirtystylez will be at The Palace.

Sunday: It’s Clutch over at MacEwan Hall!

Tuesday: Scott Helman – The Hang Up Tour 2019 will hit The Palace (The Palace is busy this week, non?).

Wednesday: Wordfest presents Eileen Myles, renowned poet novelist, public talker and journalist tonight, and over at Dickens you can take in the Wacken Metal Battle Canada 2019 Calgary Battle Rounds with Dethgod, Fjell Thyngor, Path to Extinction and SICKS.
