Screaming Females, Torche, Obnox, 36? among those announced in last wave of Sled Island acts for 2019 fest

The picture is now complete.

And what a pretty great fucking picture it is.

Sled Island has now announced all of the more than 250 acts that will bring Calgary and its many live music venues to life June 19 to 23.

Among the 180-plus additions from across the globe that round things out are: raw ’n’ ready Jersey punk act Screaming Females; veteran FLA metal act Torche; Obnox, the hip-hop, funk, soul and noise project from Lamont Thomas; UK electro act and production duo My Nu Leng; Black Belt Eagle Scout, the fragile folk-pop persona of Portland’s Katherine Paul; San Fran sludgemeisters Kowloon Walled City; TO-based Anishinaabe singer-songwriter Ansley Simpson Nominated who earned Best New Artist at the 2018 Indigenous Music Awards; reunited banger band Barn Burner; jangly lo-fi rocker Stef Chura; and moody west coast synth-pop act Little Destroyer.

Other names in the new lineup launch are NOV3L, dumb, Necking, Jonathan Kawchuk, Bonnie Doon, Peeling, Dead Fibres, PLAINS (which features Trent Reznor/Saul Williams collaborator Thavius Beck), Quaker Parents, The Sick Things and Ziibiwan.

The full list of locals who got the call is also out there and features a brilliant cross-section of what this city has to offer, including genius odd-pop outfit 36?, sensationally antiquated country artist Amy Nelson, longtime leaders of the melodically weird and wonderful Lab Coast, catchy electronic superstars Beach Season, riff-like-nobody’s-business-rockers Woodhawk, and unflinchingly honest and arresting art-smart act Future Womb.

All of these join previously announced performers such as Japanese Breakfast, JPEGMAFIA, Le1f, Bully, Oblivians, Man Or Astro-Man?, Rapsody, Jessica Pratt, Har Mar Superstar, Jack Harlow, Fly Pan Am, Kid Congo Powers + the Pink Monkey Birds and guest curator for this year’s festival Julien Baker.

Sled Island passes are available now from sledIsland.com, Sloth Records, and Lukes Drug Mart’s Bridgeland location.

Limited single tickets to just announced Sled shows will be available Friday, May 10 from the same outlets.
