It’s been six years since Calgary rocker Matt Blais has dropped a new album of material.
On Friday, June 21 he’ll rectify that wrong with the release of his nine-track offering In Shadow and Light with a show at The Rec Room.
Recorded out east with producer Brian Moncarz (Our Lady Peace, The Trews) and at OCL Studios with Josh Gwilliam, it’s a slick, scorching blues-soaked eclectic collection of songs that showcase his crack musicianship and lyrical chops, which, as the title implies, has the artist looking for some light inside the darkness.
“The world became a little bit darker, I became a bit more hardened by the music industry, and that comes through on the tracks,” Blais says of the record. “Every song has a different quality to it. Truth be told, I’ve always found it hard to fit in.”
Before the official release, Blais has been kind enough to share the complete album with readers of theYYSCENE, and we’re honoured to be able to do it.
