Eau Claire Distillery launches limited edition, horse-farmed Ploughman’s Rye Whisky

From farm to bottles to glasses to bellies.

But not too many bottles so you and your belly should get on it quick.

Eau Claire Distillery has just released its handcrafted Ploughman’s Rye Whisky just in time for Canada Day.

The special limited-edition spirit from the Turner Valley-based distillery is a truly Canadian and local concoction that should make your long weekend one to remember.

Described as “an approachable, smooth sipping rye that can be enjoyed on its own or in your favourite brown spirit cocktail,” the one-of-a-kind beverage was created using traditional horse-farming practises — the first one to do so since the turn of the century — then aged in New American Oak barrels before being completed in casks that were used for their Single Malt Whisky Batch 002.

So. Yum.

“This unique rye is the only one in the world that uses horse-farmed rye. It was grown in a field at the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site near Longview, Alberta,” David Farran, president of Eau Claire, said in a release. “You don’t get more Alberta than that.”

The Ploughman’s Rye Whisky is available now from the distillery and their booth at the Calgary Farmer’s Market, as well as some of your favourite local liquor stores, including Sobeys and Safeway’s, Co-op Wine and Spirits, Kensington Wine Market, Willow Park, Highlander and some Liquor Depot locations.

Happy Canada Day.

And please drink responsibly.
