Our summer weekends are flying by, so take advantage of everything while you can! (That sounded very pessimistic, but I’ve lived in Calgary all of my life. I know how this all plays out.) What are some of your options? Well, I’m glad you asked …
Thursday: Taste of Calgary – Calgary’s festival of food and drink takes place this weekend at Eau Claire Plaza, and if you feel like taking in some of the Fringe Festival afterwards, An Honest History of Bullshit is a good bet over at the Ironwood.
Friday: Slam Festival begins today and takes place over at the 10th Street Wave on the Bow River (beside 10th Street bridge). Slam will feature live music, a pop-up market, food trucks and of course, river surfing. Go check it out! If you’re looking for something less festival, more indoors, but still music, take your pick of Black Pistol Fire at the Commonwealth, Born Broken with Stab. Twist. Pull. at the Palomino, and The Ashley Hundred Single Release Party with Windigo will be happening over at Broken City.
Saturday: The Market Collective Summer Take-over continues at the St. Louis Hotel this weekend, and hey! The Calgary Dragon Boat Race & Festival happens this weekend at north Glenmore Park, so head down and cheer on some rowers! The Museica Trio and Harmony Guzheng Ensemble will be performing from 1 – 4pm at C-Square, and blaeser will be at Gravity Espresso & Wine Bar. If you like the beer, the good folks at Dandy Brewing Company are celebrating the fifth anniversary of their first brew with Dandyfest. There’ll be lots of beers from across the country, food, music, and more beer. It’s a rain-or-shine thing in their parking lot, but … beer!
Sunday: Marda Gras! The Marda Gras Street Festival happens on Sunday, so head on over to Marda Loop to take in this family-filled event that embraces the culture and cuisine of New Orleans. Feel like hanging out downtown? Head to The King Eddy for Songsmith Sundays with Doug Hoyer or make sure to catch acclaimed Americana singer-songwriter Jason Isbell at the Jack Singer Concert Hall.
Tuesday: The East Village presents $10 Date Night at Studio Bell, and Wednesday: Catch Gabriel Palatchi over at the Ironwood. And that’s that!
There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
