With a great base to build off of, The Royal Foundry are getting set to build something bigger.
The award-winning Edmonton-based alt-pop band, which is comprised of the husband and wife duo of Jared Salte and Bethany Schumacher, will release their latest album Wakeup Wakeup on Sept. 27.
They’ve given us a taste of what to expect with the release of the video for the album’s title track and its first single — a dreamy, buoyant, bouncy and shimmering electro-pop gem.
The video, itself, is a weird and wonderful visual treat featuring Salte and Schumacher adding a little darkness to the daylight joyousness the song conjures.
“We wanted to encapsulate that feeling of a bad dream where things feel so familiar yet just aren’t quite right,” says Jared. “There’s a lot of symbolism to the masks we wear throughout the video.
“We often try and change who we are truly are to try and fit into the world around us, and we wanted to really capture that feeling of breaking free from that tension between being who you are and who you ‘think’ others want you to be.”

Excited? You should be.
And to get you even more so is news that the band will also be heading out on tour following the album’s release — an extensive national fall run that brings them to Calgary’s The Gateway on Oct. 19.
If both of those things up your anticipation for all things The Royal Foundry to a suitable level of giddiness, we can take you that much higher. The band has been kind enough to give us three copies of the forthcoming album Wakeup Wakeup as well as three pairs of tickets to that concert to package up and give away to three readers of theYYSCENE.
If you want to enter to win, head to our Facebook page, perhaps give us a like or a follow, find this post and comment underneath tagging a fellow Foundry fan who you would like to take with you. We’ll pick the trio of winners and let them know via direct message by noon on Friday, Sept. 27 — album release day.
