Here we go! We’re entering into the busy holiday season (like it or not) and it’s all kicking off! How so, you ask? Like so, I say:
Thursday: 15th Annual GIRAF Festival of Independent Animation starts tonight and runs until Nov. 24 and is not to be missed! Read our preview here. Single Onion #163 takes place at Shelf Life Books and features poets Cobra Collins, Francine Cunningham, Charles Noble and Steven Ross Smith. Also, Norm MacDonald! He’s playing at the Laugh Shop this weekend!
Friday: Are you a youth? Do you know a youth? Attend a Youth Workshop on Protest Signs, Pins & Tees with Sondra Meszaros and Jane Trash at the Esker Foundation. The AUArts SA Fall Show & Sale takes place this weekend, tonight is the ticketed preview night, so get down there and snap up some works by the artists of tomorrow — today! The CPO’s presentation of Resurrection: Mahler Symphony No. 2 takes place at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, and over at Studio Bell it’s Copperhead in the Alberta Spotlight. Check out a screening of The Princess Bride with post-film music by Postgrads over at The Grand, or see Hawksley Workman at the Bella Concert Hall, and there’s also Emily Triggs’ release party for her new album Middletown at Festival Hall. Your call.
Saturday: The Authentically Indigenous – Urban Indigenous Craft Market takes place at the Kerby Centre today, and the Holiday Artisan Fair will be taking place at Fort Calgary. It’s Vinyl Saturday at the King Eddy with Archive Pat, and at cSpace King Edward it’s the Let it Snow 2019 festive fundraiser!
Sunday: Craig Cardiff plays the Ironwood, and Kick Off Your Heels Drop-In Improv for Women and Non-Binary Folx is happening over at the Alexandra Centre.
Monday: PechaKucha #39: Count Me In – Do you count? Who counts? Can you count? Listen to 10 remarkable people speaking on this topic at the Globe Cinema tonight. Daniel Caesar performs at the Jubilee, and Matt Patershuk has his album release on the Music Mile at the Ironwood Stage.
Wednesday: Stage West presents the hit musical Mamma Mia!, and the 7th Annual CUFF.Docs festival starts! Immerse yourself into a world of documentaries and see some amazing filmmaking over at the Globe Cinema.
