Top picks for getting out Dec. 5 – 11 including Calgary Cinematheque, NVRLND Creative Music Festival, AE West Artist Extravaganza Showcase and Johnny Reid

We’re into the homestretch, people. Three more weeks of crazy then a week of naps and snacks … right? Well, in the meantime here is what you’re in for as far as fun and excitement goes!

Thursday: Calgary Cinematheque presents the next screening in their Sexuality Series, featuring the film Pandora’s Box (1929) over at the Plaza Theatre. Wordfest presents Martha Baillie with Sister Language at Memorial Park Library, and over at the King Eddy it’s the AE West Artist Extravaganza Showcase featuring 11 artists of all genres. The Tenors hit the Jubilee tonight, and over at Lunchbox Theatre you can catch Naughty but Nice: Six in the City! presented by Forte Musical Theatre Guild.

Friday: Over at Alberta Printmakers Gallery you can take in the Not So Mini Print Exhibition and Sale, and at the BMO Centre it’s the Holiday Market Collective this weekend. The 12th Annual Under $100 Art Show takes place this weekend at ArtSpot, and at nvrlnd you can catch some great music at the first all-YYC creative music fest this weekend. Christmas at the Opera presents Amahl and the Night Visitors at the Mamdani Opera Centre, and A Cowtown Christmas takes place at cSpace King Edward.

Saturday: Take in some DIY Holiday Gift Making with Rae Dunphy Aromatics at Workshop Studios, or attend a workshop on Hoop Dance with Sandra Lamouche at Esker Foundation. The Calgary Men’s Chorus presents Silver Balls at the DJD Dance Centre, Johnny Reid brings his My Kind of Christmas tour to the Jubilee, and Bill Hills and the Fabulous Aces will be performing at the King Eddy over on the Music Mile.

Sunday: Scott Forsyth and David Newland present a special evening of photography and music at the Central Library this evening, and at the Bella Concert Hall it’s Winter Fantasia showcasing the work of MRU Conservatory choral ensembles. The Penny Sanborn Trio & Laura Hynes will perform at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, and A Christmas Carol Theatre Performance with live music takes place over at Lougheed House.

Monday: Attend a Book Launch & Special Performance of Legislating Love — discover and celebrate an LGBTQ+ elder and an important part of LGBTQ+ history at the Central Library, and The Foothills Concert Band presents A European Vacation, music from some of your favourite European cities over at the Leacock Theatre, MRU.

Tuesday: Theatre Calgary’s production of A Christmas Carol takes place at the Max Bell Theatre, and check out An Intimate Evening with Paul Brandt at the Bella Concert Hall.

Wednesday: Pegasus Performances presents a Cut Throat Christmas murder mystery dinner over at Fort Calgary, Fire Exit Theatre presents Babette’s Feast at the Engineered Air Theatre, and Andrew Allen performs at The King Eddy. (Enter to win tickets here!)
