Calgary Folk Music Festival lines up Virtually Live concert series with Terra Lightfoot, Tom Phillips, Mick Flannery and more

Add the Calgary Folk Music Festival to the list of arts organizations getting creative to keep the music coming.

The fest has just announced a Virtually Live six-week concert series running every Saturday evening at 7 p.m. (MST) beginning May 30.

Presented by ATB Financial, the concerts will be broadcast on Dan Mangan’s Side Door Access and feature a pair of artists from around the world performing in their homes or other venues.

The lineup for the six weeks features: beloved Calgary musician Michael Bernard Fitzgerald teamed with Charlotte Cornfield on May 30; Hamilton’s Terra Lightfoot with Sao Paulo-based artist Josyara performing on June 6; the pairing of local legend Tom Phillips with T.O.-based Canadiana artist Kaia Kater trading songs on June 13; Portland indie-folk musician Haley Heynderickx with Cali singer-songwriter Tré Burt the following Saturday; veteran Canadian folksinger Steve Poltz with Cowtown spoken-word artist and musician Kris Demeanor on the 27th of June; and for the final concert on July 4, Ireland’s Mick Flannery and Iowa’s William Elliott Whitmore will pair up for an evening of roots music.

Tickets and more information can be found at calgaryfolkfest.com.

And for those who had already set aside July 23 to 26 in anticipation of the folk fest’s annual Prince’s Island experience, organizers have also teased that they’re working on alternative online programming for that weekend as well.

Stay tuned.
