Lori Lukasewich: Fantasia

October 11, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 5:00 pm MDT

fan-ˈtā-zhə : a work (such as a poem or play) in which the author’s fancy roves unrestricted

In an age of immediacy, Lori Lukasewich slows things down with her intimate oil paintings of domestic objects. While clearly influenced by Realism and techniques of the old Masters, her work owes more of a debt to the practice of meditation. Whether it’s a porcelain figurine or silver tea set, each painting becomes an exercise in focus and stillness, a lesson in seeing. The resulting paintings are reflections on perception and value, particularly on domesticity and the woman’s role in creating a home. In the tradition of the late painter Mary Pratt, Lukasewich is shining a light on the beauty of everyday home life as “a common and necessary antidote to the difficulties of everyday life”.

Reception: Thursday October 11, 5-8 pm
