Lunar Landing Anniversary 50th Event at the RAO

July 20, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm MDT

Astronaut Neil Armstrong’s famous words, spoken on July 20, 1969, marked one of the twentieth century’s greatest endeavours of science and engineering – the lunar landing. Join us at the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory (RAO) for a special daytime event featuring presentations and family focused activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of this amazing accomplishment.

Speakers will present fascinating talks on the space race, the Apollo 11 mission, pop culture, and the future of Canadian lunar explorations. Special guest Don Hladiuk, CBC’s Starman, will present a breakdown of the lunar mission. Royal Astronomical Society of Canada – Calgary Centre’s Joel Powell’s amazing image collection will present the ramp up to lift-off. Celebrate one of humanity’s greatest achievements as we look back and look forward in our exploration of our celestial neighbour, the moon.

Family fun activities include moon music, rockets, solar observing, lunar science fiction, and much more!

Takes place at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., $10 per person, tickets at Eventbrite, limited number of tickets available.
