In the city of Calgary, the 2017 election season is currently building momentum. As we move closer to the Municipal election, it is critical to create a space for discourse about the issues, policies, and funding initiatives that affect the arts. In particular, it is important to know where our Mayoral candidates stand in relation to the importance of the arts in Calgary, to let them know who we are as a community, and how arts contribute meaningfully to building our great city.
Alberta Theatre Projects, One Yellow Rabbit, and Theatre Junction are hosting a mayoral forum:
What Can You Do?
Artists and arts organizations are invited to submit questions for our panelists in advance and join us to hear the mayoral candidates respond to these questions as they debate the function and value of the arts in Calgary.
As artists, organizations, and stakeholders, this is a great opportunity to ask the questions that concern your practice and the arts community of Calgary. The mayoral candidates have this platform to speak on arts funding and address arts-related issues on the radar in the upcoming election. We want to give the community a chance to be heard during the campaign – and give the candidates a chance to learn more about issues that matter to us.
As moderated questions are limited, we will include as many as possible and where there is more than one similar question, combine. Attendees at the forum will also be able to ask their question during the second half of the forum.
Please submit your questions for candidates to email@example.com prior to August 16.
