Things to do this week:

Watch some killer shows give Monday to CJSW

If you go to Broken City this Thursday October 22 (and you should) be sure to ask Toronto’s largely unclassifiable DD/MM/YYYY about its stint in jail last week. Apparently the band found itself tied to some unruly behaviour in the land of the free and had to spend some time cooling off in an American prison cell. Luckily they’ve made it back into the Great White North in time to join Arts & Crafts signees Young Galaxy and prog-poppers Bend Sinister (who don’t get nearly enough love in this city).

If awesome indie rock showcases aren’t really your thing Moby’s set at MacEwan Hall might be a good alternative. Granted he got a bit overexposed at the turn of the millennium but enough time has passed to remember that he’s actually a pretty darn innovative musician with material that goes from straight-up house to punk and metal. Odds are his Thursday night show will fall somewhere in between.

On the heavier side local alt-rockers Chyshuga are releasing their debut full-length this Saturday October 24 at The Warehouse. After five years on the scene and one EP the band hooked up with producer Sylvia Massy (who has worked with everyone from System of a Down and Slayer to Tom Petty) and you better believe they’re eager to share the results.

They’re not the only local band pimping an album on Saturday either. Thighs (featuring members of Remote Kid A Relative Distance and Jay Crocker’s Electric Apes) will be unleashing their debut that same night at The Marquee Room. Also on the bill: Crocker’s freeform No More Shapes and indomitable ukulele songstress Laura Leif .

Tuesday October 27 sees Celtic punks Flogging Molly return to Calgary with a show at MacEwan Hall. Which is a bit of a shame because that’s not the most conducive venue to getting shit-faced and shouting along (which is the ideal way to enjoy Celtic punk) but sometimes you have to take what you can get.

Last but certainly not least don’t forget about the CJSW funding drive. They’ve got tons of awesome events planned including sets from Forbidden Dimension and Dragon Fli Empire and even a screening of The Blues Brothers — check out cjsw.com for details. Give them your money. You won’t regret it.
