Amateur hour now a full night

To satiate your appetite for film leading up to the CIFF next week the Calgary Cinematheque will present Amateur Night tonight (Thursday September 15).

The film collects 16 amateur shorts taken from the American film archives. Pieced together the films showcase elements of drama comedy history and touching family moments. There are travelogues animated segments and home movies. Best of all a wide timeframe is covered as these films date from 1915 to 2005.

Some of the films come from regular people with point and shoot cameras while others were made by some people you may have heard of like oh I don’t know Alfred Hitchcock and Richard Nixon.

Amateur Night will screen at 7 p.m. at The Plaza Theatre. Tickets are $12 for the general public $10 for students and $8 for Cinematheque members.
