Pizza Pursuit – Sunshine Pizza

Sunshine Pizza

Order: All meat ($16.50). A large 12-inch pizza topped with pepperoni beef salami ham and bacon.

Crust: A fairly chewy middle-of-the-road-style dough. It had enough substance that it was a bit of a workout to chew but I believe that’s what they’re aiming for.

Sauce: They use a sweet and slightly loose sauce. Because of the toppings it basically became a meat sauce. There’s a point where there can be too much sauce and things get too messy. Sunshine managed to stay on the edge of that theoretical line without actually going over it. As I ate pockets of sauce oozed towards the top of each slice but without any spillage.

Toppings: Things were understandably greasy without becoming a soggy mess. The pepperoni had a kick to it and the balance of the meats were used in good proportion. The cheese was baked to a pleasant nutty-brown colour. While I realize this was called “all meat” some veggies might have been a good addition.

Dining options: Takeout or delivery.

Decision: Falling into the range of comfort pizza I enjoyed this for what it is. There’s nothing fancy going on with this simple pie. As a testament to this pizza’s accessibility — though not if you’re a vegetarian — I will share the story of my son who lately has fallen into an “I won’t eat it unless it has ham and pineapple only” pattern. When offered a slice he not only agreed but also attacked it with reckless abandon. This pie gets four out of six slices.
