A couple of weeks ago the Green Fools were worried they would have to cancel their annual Halloween bash after the former venue The Uptown shuttered. Fortuntately the Fools have found a new home at the downtown Legion. It’s a little smaller but still big enough to showcase one of the best parties of the year.
in bittersweet news the recently censored and shutdown Sugar Cube gallery is having a farewell party/performance in front of the space. On Sunday September 30 the gallery is hosting a (uncensored) " Wake and Wailing Procession ."
It’s a celebration and a lament for the closing of Calgary’s smallest cultural venue — an odd little mainstay on 17th that’s been around in one form or another for 13 years.
Starting at 2 p.m. you can participate in visitation viewing of the deceased vespers and eulogy complete with "Cupcakes of Shame!" At 3 p.m. the "ceremonial procession of the remains" starts up. According to the event page this will involve wailing and "optional sobbing/shrieking." Fun!
The event will culminate in everyone going for tasty hotdogs and beer at Tubby Dog so you can’t really lose. The former gallery is located at 924 17th Ave. S.W.
