NMC’s free, summer C-Square series spotlights global sounds in the city

Once again, the world is calling on Saturdays this summer.

The National Music Centre has just announced the lineup for its free, family friendly C-Square series taking place every weekend in August and it’s another passport to sounds from around the globe through Calgary’s music community — gospel, latin music, klezmer and traditional Chinese music.

“We’ve been connecting with different cultural communities around the city and are excited to share a taste of their sounds this summer,” Paul Brooks, NMC’s performance and artist programs manager, said in a release. “This summer concert series is an opportunity to showcase different styles of music from around the world by musicians who call Calgary home.”

The shows, which take place in the outdoor East Village location of 7th Ave. and 4th St. S.E, take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., elements permitting.

Here’s the lineup for this season’s C-Square:

Aug. 3: Klezmer in the Square: Schmenge with The Calgary Musicscapes Band

Aug. 10: Chinese Traditional in the Square: Musesica Trio with Harmony Guzheng Ensemble

Aug. 17: Gospel in the Square: HAVEN Vanguard with Calgary South Sudanese Gospel Choir

Aug. 24: Latin in the Square: Carolina Slim with La Mosca
